Maud Berns, a young and eager saxophonist from the Netherlands, is specialised in classical and jazz music. She plays baritone and soprano saxophone in different classical formations. Recently she started teaching for various organisations. Maud is an energetic and enthusiastic woman who is always looking for a new way to develop herself.
Short biography
Dutch saxophonist Maud Berns is specialized to master both jazz and classical music. She already played together with a lot of well-known orchestras. Maud’s repertoire is broad and diverse, ranges from solo works to chamber music and accompanying orchestras.
Maud is currently studying at conservatorium Maastricht for her 3rd bachelor year classical saxophone with teacher Jean-Pierre Cnoops where she plays alto saxophone as well as soprano and baritone saxophone.
Maud has also started teaching. She already did a teaching course last year but is now really going for it with teaching as her minor. She recently got employed by stichting cultuur and is now teaching saxophone to the students of various organisations like Koninklijke harmonie Klimmen and harmonie Berggalm Noorbeek. Teaching is really a dream of Maud since she wants to give all of her knowledge to other people.
Her goal is to start teaching at the music school in Kerkrade, SMK Parkstad, after obtaining her bachelor's degree and eventually she wants to get a place in one of the orchestras of the Armed forces of the Netherlands.

Dutch saxophonist Maud Berns is specialized to master both jazz and classical music. She already played together with a lot of well-known orchestras. Maud’s repertoire is broad and diverse, ranges from solo works to chamber music and accompanying orchestras.
Recent highlights (from before the impact of corona) have included performances at various theatres in the south of the Netherland, Gala concerts, and participating with Harmonie St. Caecilia Nieuwenhagen at the WMC under the baton of Jos Zegers. She also did numerous concert with the LJO (limburgs jeugdorkest) under the baton of Bjorn Bus as well as playing in orchestras as a masterclass for conductors.
Maud is currently studying at conservatorium Maastricht for her 3rd bachelor year classical saxophone with teacher Jean-Pierre Cnoops where she plays alto saxophone as well as soprano and baritone saxophone.
From an early age Maud wanted to play the saxophone, but her father thought it was important to start with the recorder, his philosophy was that every house needs a solid foundation. That's why she started playing the recorder at the age of 8. After 1 year she decided it was time for the next step, a reed, she started playing the saxonette. 2 years later she got the opportunity to take a trial lesson on saxophone, which she grabbed with both hands. A trial lesson resulted in years of lessons. After a few years it became clear that after high school she wanted to turn her hobby into her profession. During her high school period she followed 3 years of preparatory vocational training at SMK Parkstad, after obtaining her high school diploma she followed this training for another year at the conservatory in Maastricht.

Maud not only has experience with classical music but also with modern music. She also plays 1st alto saxophone with Harmonie St. Caecilia Nieuwenhagen and baritone saxophone with various music formations.
Cooking, baking, photography and traveling are Mauds other hobbies, to which snowboarding has recently been added.
